Question 11

What is a medical companion service?

Accepted Answer

A medical companion service provides a trained, caring professional who accompanies a client to medical appointments, procedures, or hospital visits — not just a driver. Your SOTGO Companion will escort you inside, stay with you during your visit, communicate with medical staff on your behalf if needed, and ensure you get home safely. This is especially valuable for post-operative care, ER visits, specialist appointments, and any situation where a family member cannot be present.

Question 12

How is SOTGO different from Uber, Lyft, or a taxi?

Accepted Answer

Rideshare and taxi services drop you at the curb and drive away. SOTGO Companions stay with you. We escort you inside your destination, wait during your appointment, assist with paperwork or communication if needed, and accompany you back home. Our Companions are trained to work with seniors and individuals with physical, visual, or cognitive disabilities — providing the kind of attentive, personalized care that no rideshare app can offer.

Question 13

What is non-emergency medical transportation, and does SOTGO provide it?

Accepted Answer

Non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) refers to scheduled rides to and from medical appointments for people who do not require an ambulance but need assistance beyond a standard taxi or rideshare. SOTGO provides private-pay companion transportation throughout the NC Triangle — Durham, Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill. Unlike county paratransit programs, SOTGO does not require disability certification or Medicaid eligibility. Anyone who needs a reliable, attentive companion for a medical trip can book with us.

Question 14

Do you serve the entire Triangle area — Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SOTGO provides companion and transportation services throughout the NC Triangle, including Durham, North Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill. Service outside these areas may be available by special request for an additional fee. Call our office at 1-800-517-4149 to confirm coverage for your specific location.

Question 15

What is the Watchful Eye wellness plan?

Accepted Answer

Watchful Eye is SOTGO's proactive wellness monitoring program for seniors who live independently. Plans start at $29/month and include regular check-in calls and wellness visits to help family members stay informed about their loved one's wellbeing — even from a distance. Three tiers are available: Self Check, Wellness Check, and Wellness Check Plus. Call our office for details on which plan is right for your family.

Question 16

Can SOTGO help with airport transportation for a senior?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Airport Companion service is designed specifically for seniors traveling alone. A SOTGO Companion will escort your loved one through check-in, security, and to the gate — and meet them on arrival for the return trip. The flat-rate Airport Companion package covers three hours of service plus roundtrip ground transportation up to 20 miles. Call our office to book or for trips outside the standard mileage range.

Question 17

Is SOTGO a good option for a senior who lives alone?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. SOTGO was founded specifically to serve seniors and adults who need reliable, compassionate support — especially those who live alone or whose family members live far away. Whether it is a ride to a doctor's appointment, company for a social outing, help running errands, or a regular wellness check-in through our Watchful Eye program, SOTGO provides the kind of attentive care that helps seniors maintain their independence with confidence.
